Downstream from Proverbs

#scripture

A lot of advice people give today sounds modern, but Proverbs has been saying it for thousands of years.

Watch who you spend time with.

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.

Proverbs 13:20

Think before you speak.

To answer before listening—that is folly and shame.

Proverbs 18:13

Stay humble.

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

Proverbs 11:2

Be slow to anger.

Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.

Proverbs 14:29

Hard work pays off.

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

Proverbs 14:23

Don’t gossip.

A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.

Proverbs 16:28

Save for a rainy day.

The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down.

Proverbs 21:20

Anything that holds up this long had to come from somewhere higher than us.
